In this lesson, you will learn how to start a normal or temporary chat, choose an AI model, dictate text, edit a message, and request an answer from another model.
Try it: plan a vegetarian dinner
Pretend four friends are coming for dinner and you have 30 minutes to cook.
Click New chat in the sidebar.
Below the chat box, you will see Model: auto. This means Mono automatically chooses a model for your request. Keep this setting for the first exercise.
Click Copy below this example, paste the text into the chat box, and click the send button on the right of the box.
Plan a vegetarian dinner for four people. I have 30 minutes and one frying pan. Give me a menu, a shopping list, and a timed cooking plan.Wait for the complete answer. Then copy the following request into the same conversation's chat box and send it. Mono already has the earlier plan there.
Make it suitable for someone who cannot eat dairy.
Run on Mono below an example opens a new tab with the chat box already filled. It does not carry over the current conversation. Review the text and send it yourself. Use Copy for follow-ups in an existing conversation.
Dictate a message
- Click the microphone in the chat box. Allow microphone access if your browser asks.
- Speak another request about dinner, such as explaining that you do not have an oven.
- Finish recording with the stop icon. Wait for the spoken text to appear in the chat box.
- Read it, correct recognition errors, and click the send button. Dictation does not send automatically. Each recording can last up to ten minutes.
Edit a sent message
- Find your first dinner request in the conversation. Click Edit beneath it.
- In the chat box, change “four people” to “six people”.
- Send the edited message. This removes the later messages and generates a new answer. Try it in a practice chat first.
Compare an answer with another model
- Under the completed answer, click Try different model.
- If the Recommended view is open, switch to All models. This groups models by provider.
- Scroll to a provider heading and click an available model underneath it. Mono answers the request again with that model.
- Compare the new answer with the previous one. Which shopping list is more complete, and which cooking plan is more realistic?
- To request a fresh answer from the same model instead, open More beneath the answer and choose Generate again, where available.
Choose your own model before sending
- Click New chat in the sidebar, then Model: auto below the chat box.
- Choose All models. Scroll to a provider heading and click an available model underneath it. Its name now replaces auto below the chat box.
- Write and send a request. It uses your choice rather than automatic selection. This does not change the task defaults in settings.
Try a temporary chat
- Click New chat in the sidebar.
- Before sending, click the Temporary Chat icon at the top. The Nothing will be saved. notice shows that temporary mode is active.
- Send a harmless practice question. This conversation is not saved in history and does not use memory. Plugins are unavailable here.
- Click New chat again when you want the next conversation to be saved normally.
Temporary chat is useful for a one-off task, but its banner is not a guarantee that AI providers never process or retain data.
Check your result
You have held a normal conversation, asked a follow-up, dictated and edited a message, and compared models. You can also tell whether your conversation will be saved.
