In this lesson, you will learn how to connect a service, check its permissions, select the connection in a chat, and disconnect it.
Try it: ask about a practice document
Pretend a service you use contains a harmless document you want summarized. Choose a service actually offered in your plugin list; the available catalogue can change.
Open the Settings gear menu at the top. Choose Plugins, then click New connection. Search for your service. Available soon means it cannot be used yet.
Select the service, use Connect where offered, and complete its authorization flow with the intended account. Read the access requested. For this exercise, choose Read only where available.
Return to Connected plugins and check the connection. Give it a recognizable name if you use several accounts.
Click New chat in the sidebar. Click Plugins below the chat box, then the name of your connection. Check that it is shown as selected.
Send:
Find my practice document named ‘Club welcome note’ and summarize its main points. Do not change anything.Substitute the name of a document you actually have permission to read.
Review the response and any tool activity. If Mono cannot find the document, check the connected account, granted access, and document name before reconnecting.
Access and disconnection
Read and write permits supported changes when you request them. Read-only for this chat can further restrict a connection. A connection with read-only access cannot gain write permission just because you ask; changing a curated connection's access mode requires reconnecting. Allow changes appears where the interface supports enabling requested changes.
To stop using a plugin in one conversation, deselect it there. To remove the connection, use Disconnect in settings and confirm. This does not undo earlier changes in the external service. Plugins are unavailable in temporary chats and Author Mode.
Advanced users can connect an existing remote server through Other tool over MCP, enter its MCP server URL, choose authentication, inspect permissions, and use Check connection. You do not need a custom server for the ordinary connection workflow.
Check your result
You can tell which account is connected, what it may access, and whether it is selected for the current chat. Reading a document should not require changing it.
